Summary
The design of the 1801 <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Flag" class="extiw" title="en:Union Flag">Union Flag</a>, with the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/fimbriation" class="extiw" title="en:fimbriation">fimbriation</a> of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordinary_(heraldry)" class="extiw" title="en:Ordinary (heraldry)">ordinaries</a> highlighted in pale yellow. The interpretation shown here is in conflict with the original blazon as decreed in 1801, which specifies that the red saltire is fimbriated in white and shown countercharged with the white saltire (i.e. the yellow fimbriations should be directly on either side of the red diagonal, not on the far side of the white diagonal).
