The late Henry C. de Mille was <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Belasco" class="extiw" title="w:David Belasco">David Belasco's</a> literary partner, and wrote with him The Wife, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Chumley" class="extiw" title="w:Lord Chumley">Lord Chumley</a> and other pieces. His sons have inherited his talent for dramatic work. William C. de Mille, born in 1878, was educated at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_University" class="extiw" title="w:Columbia University">Columbia</a> and later in Germany. His first attempt at playwriting was a one-act sketch entitled, A Mixed Foursome, produced in 1899 by Mr. Sargent's students. He also wrote with Charles Barnard a piece called The First Ring, which was seen during the season of 1900-1 at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnegie_Hall" class="extiw" title="w:Carnegie Hall">Carnegie Lyceum</a>. He has written with his brother, Cecil, a play for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Richman_(actor)" class="extiw" title="w:Charles Richman (actor)">Charles Richman</a>, called The Genius, in which that actor will star this season, and he is the author of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Edeson" class="extiw" title="w:Robert Edeson">Robert Edeson's</a> new play which will be presented at the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson_Theatre" class="extiw" title="w:Hudson Theatre">Hudson</a> in January. Cecil de Mille has had experience as an actor, having played with <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._H._Sothern" class="extiw" title="w:E. H. Sothern">E. H. Sothern</a> and other stars. He tried playwriting by constructing a melodrama which met with success, after which he collaborated with his brother on the play for Mr. Richman. He has just completed a play for a star in collaboration with Mrs. Charles Doremus.
