First diagram of an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/iconoscope" class="extiw" title="w:iconoscope">iconoscope</a> television camera tube, one of the earliest practical <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/video_camera_tube" class="extiw" title="w:video camera tube">video camera tubes</a>, invented by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Zworykin" class="extiw" title="w:Vladimir Zworykin">Vladimir Zworykin</a>, from his 1931 US patent. Zworykin patented the tube for use as an ultraviolet video microscope, but applied it to the new expanding technology of television.
