Filmi-ghazal is a genre of film songs based on ghazal poetry in Hindustani or Urdu language, used in Indian films, especially Hindi cinema (Bollywood). The filmi-ghazals retain the couplet format and rhyme scheme similar to that in ghazals. But instead of vocal or instrumental passages as interludes, this genre usually uses pre-composed musical pieces.[1][2]
Music directors like Madan Mohan composed notable filmi-ghazals extensively for muslim social's in the 1960s and 1970s. [3]
