The Florida State University College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, located in Tallahassee, Florida, is one of fifteen colleges comprising the Florida State University (FSU). The College was founded in 1973 and includes six departments: Economics, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Urban and Regional Planning and the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy.[2] For over 30 years professors and students alike have studied and advanced the discussion of important social, economic, and public policy issues that lead to innovations in industry, government, and non-profit organizations. Several of the departments achieved major recognition in their fields including the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Additionally, the Department of Political Science was cited as the 17th most productive in research among all American universities and the Department of Sociology ranks in the top ten in its scholarship on gender.[3] The Askew School of Public Administration and Policy was listed as the 3rd most productive in terms of students publishing while graduate students.

As part of the University's Pathways to Excellence, R. Mark Isaac is leading initiatives to assemble a program in experimental social science. New within the college is a master's degree program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within the Geography Department.[4]
