Balu Ganesh Ayyar (Born 1961) is an Indian executive. He is currently the CEO of Mphasis.

Early life

Ayyar was born in Madhya Pradesh to Professor S.A. Balu and Brinda Balu. He finished his schooling in Madhya Pradesh and went on to complete his B.Com from Guru Nanak College, Chennai. He participated in debates and writing plays. He completed his chartered accountancy in 1985.

Career

Ganesh Ayyar started his career in a manufacturing company as a management trainee in internal audit. After which he joined Hewlett Packard in 1989 with the core responsibility of growing business in the APAC region. In 1999, he was appointed the president of Hewlett Packard India and was instrumental in strengthening Hewlett Packard 's position in India. From 2004 to 2008, he was vice president of outsourcing services business unit for Asia-Pacific and Japan.[1]

On January 29, 2009, Ayyar was appointed as CEO and executive director at Mphasis.[2]

Ganesh Ayyar was also instrumental in refreshing Mphasis brand identity and tagline ‘Unleash the Next’ in 2014.[3] The $1 billion-plus IT services company has been looking at non HP related projects in banking, capital markets and insurance verticals to offset the drop in business from its parent company Hewlett Packard (HP).[4][5]

As part of the companys’ growth path, he has front ended four strategic acquisitions AIGSS, Fortify, Wyde Corporation, Digital Risk.[6]

He was among the top 5 paid CEO's in India from the IT sector.[7]

CSR

Ayyar has championed several Corporate Social Responsibility causes especially the employment of people with disabilities at the workplace. Today over 400 people with disabilities have been employed by Mphasis. With his executive sponsorship, the company has won several awards for its inclusion policy.[12]

Some of the initiatives undertaken under Ayyar’s leadership include:

  • Launch of Kick Start Cabs – a cab service for senior citizens and people with disabilities.[13]
  • Partnership with Lokalex – for a pilot program in rural education through IT.[14]
  • Setup Office of Disability Services in partnership with IIMB.[15]
