Georg von Ompteda (29 March 1863 – 10 December 1931) was a German novelist.
Biography
He was born in Hanover, the scion of a noble family.[1] His father, Wilhelm von Ompteda, was the last Hofmarschall to serve King George V. In 1892, Ompteda was forced to retire as officer of the Prussian army due to injuries he received after falling from a horse. He then turned his hand to writing. He translated the collected works of Guy de Maupassant, and later gained fame with his social novels, especially his trilogy Deutscher Adel um 1900.
Georg von Ompteda died in Munich in 1931.
