Geotab Inc. is a privately held company that specializes in the area of global positioning system (GPS) fleet management and vehicle tracking , otherwise known as the telematics industry.[3] Geotab develops, manufacturers, and supplies GPS fleet management solutions for local and Fortune 500 companies.[4] These end-to-end solutions enable customers to monitor both driver safety and performance, as well as maintain their fleet maintenance budget even while the price of fuel increases.[5] Geotab has a broad market scope, covering both light and heavy vehicles.[6] Geotab is headquartered in Oakville, Ontario, Canada and the company sells its products through an authorized reseller network based in North America, Latin America, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Asia.[7]

History

Geotab originated in South Africa in 1996.[2] but is not related to an existing company in South Africa by the similar name. By 2000, the company was officially founded in North America by Neil Cawse, the current CEO.[2]

  • 2000: CEO Neil Cawse established Geotab Canada in Oakville, Ontario.[2]
  • 2004: Rollins Orkin USA started using Geotab’s technology in their vehicles.[8]
  • 2010: Launched GO4V3 with more memory and accelerometer data, supports all protocols in one hardware, including J1708, J1939, GMLAN, OBD2 over CAN and OBD2 Legacy protocols.,[9] Geotab was officially named Garmin’s Fleet Management Partner.,[10] Geotab launched their fleet management software, MyGeotab.[11]
  • 2011: The GO5 hardware plug-and-play device was launched.[12]
  • 2012: Sprint signs as partner[13]
  • 2013: The IOX-NFC for Driver ID was introduced.,[14] Geotab launched their partnership with Navistar Inc. for Remote diagnostics .,[2] Geotab launched their partnership with PassTime.[15]
  • 2014: Geotab announced their J1939 integration with the Mobileye 560 (Mobileye’s Advanced Driver Assistance System).,[16] Enterprise Fleet Management announces partnership with Geotab,[17] Geotab and Telefonica announce a working partnership.[18]
  • 2015: O2 (United Kingdom) signs as partner.[19]
  • 2015: Geotab launched their Marketplace, which complements their pre-existing MyGeotab platform. This provides an extensive ecosystem of business-focused applications and add-ons.[20]

Corporate Structure

Geotab USA, Inc. was incorporated in Delaware in 2009 and is fully owned by Geotab Inc who is headquartered in Oakville, Ontario. Geotab USA has offices in Las Vegas, NV and a warehouse in Sarasota FL, USA. Geotab GmbH, another subsidiary, has a presence in Germany and Spain.

Causes

  • Fighting patent trolls - Geotab was sued in November 2010 along with a number of other telematics companies.[21]
  • OpenStreetMap Foundation - Geotab has contributed to openstreetmaps project and is a founding corporate member. The sponsorship related to the work done on the global address inspector layer.[22]

Awards and recognition

Geotab has been included in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 list in North America for 5 years (2010-2014).[23][24][25][26][27] In 2014, Geotab was in the top 20 in the Software sector of the Fast 500.[28] Geotab has also been included in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 list in Canada for 4 years (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014).[28] In 2014, Geotab was also a recipient of the Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50™ Leadership Award.

Geotab was listed in CIOReview’s 2013 Top 20 Logistics Technology Consulting Award.[29] Geotab's software is rated second in Capterra's list of most popular fleet management products.[30][31]
