German Historical Institute

German Historical Institute(s) (GHI, German: Deutsche Historische Institute, DHI) are nine independent academic research institutes situated in Rome; Paris; London; Washington, D.C.; Warsaw; Moscow; Beirut; Istanbul; and Tokyo.[1] Part of the Max Weber Foundation, they are dedicated to the study of historical relations between Germany and the host countries in which they are based.[2]
The GHI is governed under public law and supervised by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (German: Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung).[3]
The Max Weber Foundation comprises:[3][4]
- German Historical Institute Rome (Istituto Storico Germanico di Roma) or DHI Rome (established in 1888)
- German Historical Institute Paris (Institut Historique Allemand Paris) (1958)
- German Historical Institute London (GHIL) (1976)

- German Historical Institute Warsaw (Niemiecki Instytut Historyczny w Warszawie (NIH) (1993)
- German Historical Institute Moscow (Германский Исторический Институт в Москве (ГИИМ) (2005)
- German Centre for Art History (Deutsches Forum für Kunstgeschichte Paris (DFKP) (1997)
- Institute for Oriental Studies in Beirut (1961)
- Institute for Oriental Studies in Istanbul (1961)
- Institute for Japanese Studies in Tokyo (1988)
