Giannelli Imbula Wanga (pronounced: [dʒanɛli imbula]; born Gilbert Imbula, 12 September 1992) is a French professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Portuguese club Porto. He plays primarily as a defensive midfielder.

Club career

Guingamp

Imbula made his professional debut in Ligue 2 on 16 October 2009 for Guingamp in a game against Dijon FCO, becoming the youngest player in Ligue 2 history at 17 years, 1 month and 4 days of age.[3] In 2012–13 Ligue 2 He scored his first league goal in January against Le Havre,He helped Guingamp to promotion to Ligue 1 and he was named best player of Ligue 2's player of the year.[3]

Marseille

On July 2013, Imbula joined Marseille for a fee of €7 million, including bonuses.[4]

Porto

On 1 July 2015, Imbula signed a five-year contract with FC Porto for a fee of €20 million.[5]

International career

Born to Congolese parents,[6] Imbula was born in Belgium but has grown up in France, making him eligible for any of these three countries. In 2013, he received a call up from France U21 to compete in the Toulon Tournament. However, in October 2015, Gianelli Imbula publicly expressed his desire to play for the Belgium national team, for which reason he has required authorization to FIFA to do so. [7]
