Girls Islamic Organisation of India (GIO) is a student organisation in India for girls. It is the daughter organisation of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. Girls Islamic Organisation of India (GIO) came to existence on 7 July 1984 under the patronage of Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Kerala circle.[1] It releases the potential of womenfolk in moulding the society's future. And also intends to uplift the girls and enhance their power of action and reaction.[2]

Aim
It aims at the assurance of justice and prosperity without any discrimination of religion and caste, finding solution for the problems affecting girls in the socio- political, moral and cultural zone and refining the girl's value conscious.[3]
Intention
Being a group that works among girls, GIO has to make its member realise their space in their families as well as society. Girls should have the courage to shoulder the responsibility of handing over the message of truth to the posterity.
Activity
The main nature of GIO is to function girls on to the grounds of Islam. It also stirs and encourages the creative talents of girls by conducting camps, campaigns and contests. Special focus is given to the campuses. GIO tries to up lift the educational levels of girls, to strengthen them morally and to boost up their talents through its activities.

Significant Activities
Campaigns
- Seminars and Conferences were conducted during Campaign Against Atrocities on Women and Alcoholism. A memorandum was submitted to the chief minister.

Reactions
GIO reacted strongly against:
- Violence and exploitation of women
- Rape of a woman, despite in the company of her husband, at Kannur Kotta,
- Kidnapping of a woman from Niramaruttur
- Obscene Fashion Parade at Sadhu Kalyanamandapam, Kannur
- Issuance of Bar licenses violating the distance limits.
- The Supreme Court directive on implementation of Uniform Civil Code, and
- Miss World Beauty Contest[5]
The organisation joined hands with various other Women Organisations and held Protest Rallies and Public Meetings.
Besides, it registered its protest against:
- The opposition towards women’s entry into Palayam Masjid;
- The Liquor Policy of Nayanar government;
- Cabaret in various major hotels;
- The notorious child prostitution racket in Kozhikode .
GIO regularly conducts study classes and Public meetings on selective subjects for Muslim women to imbibe true Islamic teachings among them and alleviate dogmas and superstitions prevalent among them.
It organises two-day camps every year for Muslim girls, waiting plus two and SSLC examination results.
It organises cordial meets, Iftaar Meets and Table Talks with the objective of spreading Communal Harmony on various festival occasions.[6]

- Conducted Survey in Campuses on the topic: Against Sexual Anarchy.
- Essay Competition on “Slumping Moral Values – Causes and Solution”
- Works with SIO during Campus Elections.
- Conducted District Conventions.[6]
Conferences
- The first State Conference of GIO was held on 9-10 January 1993. A seminar on “Women in New Century” was conducted as part of the conference.
- In 1989, District Conferences were conducted with “ Women’s Liberation Through Faith” as the Central Theme.
- District Conferences were held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kannur and Ernakulam districts with “Women – Status and Importance” as the theme.
Mouthpiece
Aramam, a women’s monthly was launched in 1984 as GIO mouthpiece.[7]
