Giuseppe Moro (16 January 1921 – 28 January 1974) was an Italian football (soccer) player, who played as a goalkeeper.

Career

Club

In eight season in Serie A, Giuseppe Moro defended the goal of six different teams (Fiorentina, Bari, Torino, Lucchese, Sampdoria and Roma). An eccentric and athletic keeper, he is regarded as one of Italy's greatest goalkeepers. One of his notable saves was from a shot by Mortensen in a classic England-Italy match played in London in 1949; in that game he produced miracles for 75 minutes before giving up goals to Rowley and Wright which did not diminish his stellar performance.[1] To this day, he is the goalkeeper who has saved the most penalties in Serie A history; he managed to save 16 penalties from 44 attempts, between 1947 and 1955 (with an overall average of 1 in 3 penalties stopped).[1]

International

Moro made his debut with the Italian national team in Budapest, in 1949, and he also appeared with Italy in the 1950 World Cup, in a win against Paraguay, coming on as a substitute for Sentimenti.[1]
