Background and History

Gorey Community School was established in 1993, founded by Bishop levo following the amalgamation of the Loreto, Vocational and CBS schools.

It now has a student population of over 1800 and a teaching staff of more than 150.

The school occupies a large site of almost 20 acres (81,000 m2) which comprises playing fields, basketball courts, and tennis courts. In 2000 a new extension was opened. The construction of a second extension began in September 2007 and was completed in October 2008. There are now over 90 classrooms including numerous specialist rooms and a large gymnasium. Another further extension was made in 2011 and opened in 2012. Through many years of fund raising an oratory was built in 2003 with seating for over 200 people.

GCS is managed by a Board of Management, which includes 6 representatives from the trustees ( the V.E.C., the Loreto order and the C.B.S), 2 teachers representatives and 2 parents representatives).
