It was expanded with the addition of a 41 floor tower in 2003[2] when it was renamed the Grand Hyatt Cairo. It ceased to be managed by the Hyatt chain on 20 March 2011 due to unresolved contractual disputes with the hotel’s owner. It is currently operated as an independent hotel.
