The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) is a registered Canadian charity. The foundation's purpose is centered on educating individuals about the prevention and management of heart disease and stroke, and to fund medical research regarding the causes of these conditions. The organization was founded in 1952.

The current CEO of HSFC is David Sculthorpe.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation, a volunteer-based health charity, leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke and reducing their impact through the advancement of research and its application, the promotion of healthy living and advocacy.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is a federation of 10 provincial Foundations, led and supported by a force of more than 130,000 volunteers.

  • Throughout its history, the Foundation has relied on donations.
  • The Foundation receives no operational funding from government sources.
  • In 2008, the Foundation spent more than $127 million on research, health promotion, and community programs.
  • Since 1952, the Foundation has raised and spent more than $1 billion on heart and stroke research.

The Health Check food information program is also administered by the foundation.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation also provides the free and confidential on-line program the Blood Pressure Action Plan and Heart & Stroke Risk Assessment. These interactive tools help people get a risk profile and then a personalized action plan to reduce their risk.

Actions

Canadian Stroke Strategy

A program designed to provide every Canadian citizen as much stroke care as possible by 2010. The Strategy helped to prevent, treat, rehabilitate, and reintegrate patients back to their daily life. It also raised public awareness and knowledge about strokes, and provided proper training for healthcare teams.

Action Plan on Obesity

The Plan focuses mainly on supporting policies to prevent obesity by advocating on healthy eating and regular exercise in Canada. This plan is co-operated by government of Canada. [1]
