Helmut Borchardt (1 August 1917 – 15–18 March 1945[Note 1]) was a highly decorated Oberfeldwebel in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grade Oak Leaves was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Helmut Borchardt was killed between 15–18 March 1945 after the breakout of fortress Schneidemühl and on 14 April 1945 he was posthumously awarded the Oak Leaves.

  1. According to Scherzer he was killed in action in the timeframe 15 to 18 March 1945 in the vicinity of Küstrin.[1]
