Hope Pym, also known as the Red Queen, is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The daughter of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne in the MC2 universe, she was created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, and first appeared in A-Next #7 (April 1999). The character was adapted for a wider audience played by Evangeline Lilly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Hope van Dyne in the 2015 film Ant-Man and will appear as the titular superhero Wasp in the 2018 sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Fictional character biography
After the deaths of their parents, Hope Pym and her twin brother Big Man (Henry Pym Jr.) became outraged when people began referring to A-Next as the "next generation" of Avengers. Using their parents' fortune, the twins put together the supervillain Revengers team and gained access to the Avengers Mansion via their parents' security codes.[volume & issue needed] When they ambushed A-Next, Hope set about to torture Cassandra Lang, feeling that she's the Avengers' rightful heir.[volume & issue needed] Hope was finally stopped by Henry, who prevented her from initiating the mansion's self-destruct sequence, which would have killed both A-Next and the Revengers.[volume & issue needed]
Powers and abilities
As Red Queen, she uses implanted bio-wings to fly. Also, she has bio-electric blasters installed on the gloves on the back of her hands, and extendable claws built into her gloves. However, she apparently does not have the ability to alter her size.[volume & issue needed]
Other characters
Nadia Pym of the mainstream 616 Marvel Universe is revealed to be the daughter of Hank Pym and Maria Trovaya, and is the latest iteration of Wasp.[1]
In other media
Film
- Evangeline Lilly portrays the character, re-named Hope van Dyne, in the 2015 film Ant-Man.[2][3] In the film, she is estranged from her father and takes her mother's maiden name. She is a business partner of Darren Cross and a reluctant acquaintance of Scott Lang.[4] A mid-credits scene shows Hope being given a modernized version of her mother's costume. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige stated that there are plans for Wasp to appear in Ant-Man sequels and other future films.[5][6]
- Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed that this version of Wasp was going to appear in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War but cut from the film.[7]
- Evangeline Lilly will reprise her role in the 2018 sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp as the Marvel Cinematic Universe iteration of Wasp.[8][9][10]
