"I Need You for Christmas" is a promotional song recorded by Romanian dance/pop vocalist Inna from her Christmas compilation album I Need You For Christmas (2009). It was written and produced by Inna's native producing trio Play & Win. The song is one of the two Christmas songs she brought out in December 2009, along with her version of Romanian popular carol "O, ce veste minunată!". While acting as the lead single for her compilation, "I Need You For Christmas" became a less successful single for Inna in Eastern Europe. A music video for the track was filmed in the AFI Palace in Cotroceni, Romania and premiered late 2009
Background
The song's writing process and production was handled by Inna's long-time producers and Play & Win-members Marcel Botezan, Radu Bolfea and Sebastian Barac. "I Need You For Christmas" was recorded in 2009 in the Play & Win Studios (Constanţa, Romania). The record debuted on InnaRomania's YouTube channel on December 3, 2009 and was then released as a promotional and an airplay single in Romania and Russia, respectively. Subsequently, a limited-edition of the track premiered to digital download in the UK in November 2012.
Music video
An accompanying music video for the song was shot on December 9, 2009 in the AFI Palace mall, located in the northern Cotroceni. Directed by Tom Boxer, it was filmed in less than five hours in only one location.[1] A promotional sneak peek called "Inna and Santa Claus!" premiered on Inna's official website on the same date with the shooting and a day later on December 10, 2009 a making-of to the video was broadcast by PRO TV.
Chart performance
"I Need You For Christmas" became a moderate airplay success, only peaking at number ninety-seven on the Romanian Top 100. In Russia, the song entered the TopHit Airplay Chart and peaked at number 146 on December 28, 2009. In the United Kingdom it was announced that it entered the top 200 extension at number one hundred ninety-eight. For the 2011-2012 season the song has re-entered the UK Singles Chart top 200 extension at number eighty-eight (#188 in the Official Chart). As of October 16, 2010 the song has sold 33,000 units in the United Kingdom and 45,000 copies worldwide.
