The papal bull In nomine Sancte is an official catholic document signed by Pope Paul III in the 16th. century, in which he talks about the indigenous peoples evangelism and conversion tasks.[1]

Antecedents

Because of the evangelism of the New World, in 1573, Paul III prohibited the indian enslavement, defended their rationality, regarding them being part of mankind, he declared they had liberty rights, rights to have their own possessions and at the same time they had the right to have faith, which should be predicted by peaceful means, avoiding all types of cruelty.

Description

Pope Paul III issued a series of instructions about the right way to apply the sacraments, the exhortation, exorcism, unction, and especially the baptism of the indigenous people from New Spain.[2]

It also talks about polygamy among Indians, explaining the way of regularizing unions;[3] the abstention and fasting days, Christmas rites, resurrection and Lent.
