Infosys BPO, the business process outsourcing subsidiary of Infosys, was set up in April 2002. Infosys BPO focuses on integrated end-to-end outsourcing and delivers transformational benefits to its clients through reduced costs, ongoing productivity improvements, and process reengineering. Infosys BPO operates in India, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Ireland, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, the United States, Puerto Rico, China, the Philippines, Singapore, and Australia, and as of September, 2015 employed 33,391 people.

History

The company was started as Progeon Limited in April 2002 and is today amongst the top BPOs in India according to NASSCOM.[1] It was started as a 74% and 26% joint venture between Infosys and Citibank Investments. In 2006, Infosys bought out Citibank's share at a price of Rs. 592 per share, Citibank having invested at Rs 0.20 per share[citation needed].

Operations

Infosys BPO operates in India, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Ireland, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, the United States, Puerto Rico, China, the Philippines, Singapore, and Australia. It is headquartered in Bangalore, India. About 60% business of Infosys BPO comes from overlapping clients with the parent Infosys Ltd.[2] During the FY 2013-14, it earned 48% of its revenue from North America, 34% from Europe, 4% from India and remaining 14% from other parts of the world.[3] The proportion of voice and non-voice related revenue was 11:89 in the same financial year.[3]

  • Infosys BPO won accolades at National Quality Excellence Awards. It received two awards in the Best Business Process Excellence Program and the Best Process Improvement Project categories on February 14, 2015 at the Hotel Taj Lands End, Mumbai.

Acquisitions

  • In September 2012, Infosys BPO acquired US-based Marsh BPO for an undisclosed amount to expand its presence in the group life insurance space. Marsh BPO, based in Des Moines, Iowa has 87 employees and serves seven insurers and covers more than 600,000 insured lives. Marsh BPO will be absorbed in McCamish Systems.[10][11]
  • In January 2012, Infosys BPO acquired Australia-based Portland Group for about AUD 37 million.[12] Portland Group provides strategic sourcing and category management services.[13]
  • In December 2009, Infosys BPO acquired Atlanta-based McCamish Systems for about $38 million.[14]
  • In July 2007, Infosys BPO signed a $28 million deal to acquire finance back-offices of Royal Philips spread in India, Poland and Thailand.[15][16]

Its organic growth performance has been rated as exemplary and best amongst its peers by a leading BPO research firm.[17] It is taking over competitors’ share with increased on-site presence.[18] In FY15 the company plans to hire 14,000 employees to further its growth performance.[19] Infosys BPO recently launched its Process Progression Model to improve business outcomes for clients by accelerating optimization and transformation of business processes. The company also extended its outsourcing agreement with Royal Philips till June 2019.[20]
