Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (commonly known as IMI,PSEIMI) is a provider of electronics manufacturing services (EMS) and power semiconductor assembly and test services with manufacturing facilities in Asia, Europe, and North America. It serves diversified markets that include those in the automotive, industrial, medical, telecommunications infrastructure, storage device, and consumer electronics industries. Its customized solutions range from design and product development to manufacturing and order fulfillment. A subsidiary of Ayala Corporation, IMI is listed in the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Manufacturing Sites

IMI also has multiple manufacturing sites in China, Mexico, the USA, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic, providing solutions to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) catering for both regional and international markets.[1]

Global Ranking

IMI ranks 18th on the list of top EMS providers in the world based on 2014 EMS-related revenues as reported by Manufacturing Market Insider.[2] It is also the 7th largest EMS player in the automotive industry as reported by New Venture Research based on 2014 EMS-related revenues.[3]

Global Expansion

The global journey of IMI began in 1980 with a joint venture between Ayala Corporation and Resins, Inc. With its headquarters in Muntinlupa, they were just a workforce of around 100 employees with total fixed assets of US$ 3,700,290. By 2001, IMI only had three manufacturing sites in the Philippines.

Today, IMI has 13 manufacturing sites around the world with more than 15,000 employees. From a mere EMS company, it has evolved into a comprehensive solutions provider (EMS and Power Semiconductor Assembly and Test Services) for product design and development. IMI is also into prototyping, manufacturing, product test development, testing and order fulfillment.[4]

Other Milestones:

  • 2003—IMI began to broaden its footprint across Asia and the rest of the world.
  • 2005 - IMI acquired the EMS assets of Saturn Electronics and Engineering Inc. in the US[5] and the Speedy-Tech Electronics Ltd of Singapore.[6] The acquisition of Speedy-Tech eventually led to the establishment of IMI’s presence in China—arguably the world’s largest factory—through three facilities, namely, two in Shenzhen and one in Jiaxing.
  • 2007 - IMI received Circuit Assembly’s 2007 Service Excellence Award for the Highest Overall Customer Ranking for medium-sized EMS company category. (Circuit Assembly is a US-based electronics industry trade publication that recognizes companies that receive the highest customer service ratings, as judged by their own customers.) The ASEAN Business Advisory Council, hailed IMI as one of the 12 most admired companies in Southeast Asia.[7]
  • 2010 - IMI was listed by way of introduction on the Philippine Stock Exchange. It acquired PSi Technologies Inc., a power semiconductor assembly and test service provider.[8]
  • 2011 - To bring its services closer to OEMs in difference regions of the world, IMI acquired EPIQ NV subsidiaries in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Mexico.
  • 2014 - IMI completed its public offering of 215,000,000 common shares on the Philippine Stock Exchange and bought out minority shareholders of PSi Technologies Inc. The company posted $844.5 million in consolidated revenues that year.
  • 2015 - IMI (on its 35th year of operations) has become a strong EMS player with more diversified solutions to capture more programs in higher-margin niches in the automotive, industrial, medical, and telecommunication infrastructure industries.

Automotive EMS

IMI is an EMS player in the automotive industry. Beyond assembly services, IMI provides automotive tier 1 suppliers and original equipment manufacturers high value services such as design and product development and test systems development.[9]

Sustainable Company

Sustainability along with innovation is the culture at IMI. The company manufactures products and provides solutions to OEMs. It manufactures products that impact lives. The company is committed to the 3Ps (profit, people, planet) and combines profit with purpose, creating value for its employees, shareholders, the communities and other stakeholders.

  • The company manufactures safety electronics in cars such as automotive cameras to prevent road accidents and airbag controls to lessen impact of accidents.
  • For industrial electronics, IMI produces security or access control devices to prevent theft and dosimeters that measure exposure to ionizing radiation for human radiation protection. It is also engaged in robotics.
  • IMI manufactures medical diagnostic devices for detecting illness. To enable the Internet of Things, IMI has been manufacturing telecom infrastructure devices.
  • Its technology groups collaborate with one another and with customers to develop platforms or baseline technologies in areas such as camera and imaging, motor drives, power modules, lighting systems, short range wireless, human-to-machine interface, sensors, and medical electronics.[10]

Social Responsibility

IMI adheres to corporate social responsibility and integrates the concept of sustainability in its identity taking into account its relationships and interdependence with all its stakeholders, including the communities surrounding it and the environment. The company helps nearby communities to be self-reliant. IMI began a sustainable community livelihood program through a partnership with ChildFund Foundation and Yakap sa Kaunlaran ng Bata, Inc. (YKBI). In close collaboration with these organizations, IMI provided the women from the Parents Association of San Pablo and Bae, Laguna, with 10 sewing machines to encourage them toward self-reliance and nurture their entrepreneurial spirit. The Parents Associations of both communities are now sewing blouses for Krizia, a garment manufacturer.[11]

Listing in the Philippine Stock Exchange

On January 21, 2010, IMI listed 1.137 billion common shares in the Philippine Stock Exchange by way of introduction which introduced IMI to a wider public.[12]

It has completed its follow-on offering and listing of 215,000,000 common shares on December 5, 2014. IMI has 1,856,899,921 outstanding shares, as of March 31, 2015. [13]
