Investopedia is an Internet site devoted to investing education based in New York City, started by Cory Janssen and Cory Wagner in June 1999.[2] In 2007, the site was purchased by U.S. publishing company Forbes[3] which sold it to ValueClick in 2010 for $42 million.[4] In November 2013, ValueClick sold its media properties (Investopedia and PriceRunner) to IAC.[5]

With a comprehensive financial dictionary, exam preparation materials, and active trading strategies, it is a leading destination for investors. Investopedia began as a financial dictionary, separating itself from other dictionaries by offering the "Investopedia Definitions" featuring a plain English interpretation of hard to understand terms and concepts. The site now averages over 11 Million Unique Visitors and 40 Million Page views a month and is home to over 6,300 articles, 13,000 dictionary entries, and 750 pages of tutorials covering all aspects of finance and investing.

Redesign

Investopedia.com underwent a full re-design in 2012, with a new navigation and modern layout. The re-structured site also features new content verticals including for Professionals, Personal Finance, Active Trading, and Video.[6] The site deployed financial comparison tools in June 2012 for Credit Cards, Forex Software and Platforms, and Brokerage firms in a move to more actionable financial content.[7]

Simulator

Along with educational content, Investopedia offers interactive tools such as its popular stock market simulator, which allows individuals to set up a brokerage account with play money and trade publicly traded stocks and options on the NYSE, NASDAQ, and other stock exchanges.

Stock analysis

These pieces are written by a number of different authors and offer analysis and buying advice on stocks from all sectors. In addition to this, Investopedia sometimes offers forex analysis, with pieces being published that analyze different aspects of the foreign exchange market

Forex

Investopedia launched a new thing for content channel dedicated to the foreign exchange market.[when?] The specialized section focuses on currency news and analysis, including live rates, trading tutorials an Economic Calendar and more. Investopedia also developed a free currency trading simulator, the "FXSimulator" that allows users to trade currencies with fake money.

Mobile app

On September 9, 2011 Investopedia released a free iPhone App. The App gives users access to Investopedia's full financial dictionary, articles, and other content. Investopedia's App has over 211,000 downloads and is the #25 free Finance App in iTunes.
