The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is the University of Arkansas' college for students with interest in the liberal arts. It is named for former University President and United States Senator J. William Fulbright. The College has 19 different academic departments.[2] Fulbright College's Creative Writing and Translation programs rank among the top in the nation.[3]

In 2012, Fulbright College awarded the most undergraduate degrees of the eight colleges at the University of Arkansas.[4]

Name controversy

Due to Fulbright's racial views and support for racial segregation, which has drawn a staunch backlash from modern Democrats, a committee at the University of Arkansas recommended the removal of his statue and that his name be stripped from the university's arts and sciences college in 2021.[5]
