Janatha Garage is an upcoming 2016 Indian Telugu-language action film directed by Koratala Siva and produced by Naveen Yerneni, Y. Ravi Shankar, and C. V. Mohan under their banner Mythri Movie Makers. It features Mohanlal, N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Samantha and Nithya Menon in the lead roles.[3][4][5][6][7][8] It also features Saikumar,[9] Tamil actress Devayani,[10] and Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan in other important roles.[11]

Production began on 25 October 2015 in Hyderabad and principal photography began on February 22, 2016.[12] This movie is scheduled to release on August 12, 2016.[2][13]

Development

There were several rumours during mid July that Jr. NTR might team up with Koratala Siva after NTR finishes Nannaku Prematho and Koratala Siva finishes Srimanthudu.[25][26] During early October 2015, it was reported that this project will be produced by Mythri Movie Makers and it will be launched by the end of October and regular shooting will begin after NTR finishes Nannaku Prematho.[27] During mid October it was reported that this project will be launched on October 25, 2015.[28] This project was officially launched on October 25, 2015. The makers have announced that this movie will release on August 12, 2016.[2]

Casting

During mid October there were rumours that Amyra Dastur might play one of the heroines in this film.[29] During early November, there were rumours that the makers are considering Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Parineeti Chopra to play the leading lady opposite NTR.[30][31] During the end of November 2015, the makers have announced that Mohanlal has signed this movie.[32] This marks Mohanlal's second Telugu film after his cameo appearance in the 1994 Telugu film Gandeevam. During Late December, it was confirmed that Samantha Ruth Prabhu will be playing the leading lady opposite NTR for the fourth time after Brindavanam, Ramayya Vasthavayya, and Rabhasa.[4][15][33] During the end of December 2015, it was reported that Nithya Menon will be playing the second heroine in this movie making her first collaboration with NTR.[7][18] During Late January, it was reported that Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan is a part of this film playing the villain.[11][22][23] It was also reported that Unni Mukundan will be playing the role of the son of Mohanlal and Cousin of Jr. NTR. Reportedly, this movie is a family drama, and it deals about the issues between two cousins, played by NTR and Unni Mukundan.[4] During early February 2016, it was reported that former Tamil actress Devayani will be seen in a crucial role.[10] It was also reported that she will be playing the wife of Mohanlal.[21] Brahmaji confirmed his inclusion during Mid February 2016.[34] During Mid February, It was reported that Sai kumar will be a part of this movie.[19] Reportedly he will be playing the father of Jr. NTR.[9] Inclusion of well known actors like Ajay, Sithara was also confirmed during Mid February 2016.[12] During Early March, Rahman was reported to be part of this movie playing as brother to Mohanlal.[24]

Crew

Devi Sri Prasad is roped in as the music director of this movie making his third collaboration with Koratala Siva, first with Mohanlal and sixth with Jr. NTR. Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is working as Editor. Tirru who worked for many prestigious projects like Hey Ram (Tamil), Keerthi Chakra (Malayalam), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (Hindi) Krrish 3 (Hindi) and 24(Tamil) is working as the Cinematographer, making his third collaboration with Mohanlal and first with Jr. NTR. A.S Prakash is the Art Director.[35]

Filming

The regular shooting of this film was expected to begin on February 9, 2016.[36][37][38] Art Director AS Prakash erected a huge set at Saradhi Studios, Hyderabad during the first week of January 2016.[39] During Late January, it was reported that this movie will be shot mainly in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kerala.[11] Later the regular shooting was delayed to February 22, and the first schedule kicked off in Ramoji Film City and it was wrapped up in 4 days.[13] The second schedule commenced in Mumbai on March 5, it continued till March 22nd after which the unit returned to Hyderabad. Jr. Ntr, and Nithya Menon were part of this schedule.[40] The third schedule began in Hyderabad on March 25 in the specially erected set at Saradhi Studios.[41][42] Samantha joined the shooting in this schedule, and scenes featuring Mohanlal, Jr. Ntr, Samantha, and Unni Mukundan will be filmed in this schedule.[43]
