Jordan Kane Martinez, DipLCM (born 25 August 1995) is a classically trained tenor from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He was a contestant in the 2014 Open Mic UK music competition.

Early life and education

Martinez was born 25 August 1995 at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield. He attended the Joseph Whitaker School and later Southwell Minster School. It wasn't until he attended the Southwell Minster School that his love of performing developed. In the Summer of 2012 he took the Diploma of the London College of Music examination and was awarded 91 out of a possible 100 marks. Prior to this, he was awarded a distinction at grade 8 with the London College of Music in Musical Theatre performance.

Performances and competitions

Martinez has gone on to perform at the Headstock Music Festival in Newstead, Nottinghamshire, the Palace Theatre, Mansfield and later he entered the music competition Open Mic UK in which he reached the regional finals. Open Mic UK was described by BBC's York and North Yorkshire reporter Joel James as "One of the toughest competitions in the country". He was described by the judges as "a powerful vocalist and performer" and having "a great voice and dynamics". He has also performed for organisations such as The Royal British Legion.

Gilbert & Sullivan

Martinez was invited to audition for the role of Cyril in Gilbert and Sullivan's Princess Ida in 2013; this would be his debut opera performance. The reception was a warm one and he was invited back the following year to portray the lead tenor role, Richard Dauntless, in Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddigore.
