Josh McGuire (born 2 March 1990) is an Australian-born professional rugby league footballer who currently plays for the Brisbane Broncos in the National Rugby League. He is a Samoa international, Queensland State of Origin and Prime Minister's XIII representative who primarily plays at prop and lock.

Playing career

Born in Brisbane, Queensland, McGuire moved to Lismore, New South Wales with his family when he was two. He moved back to Brisbane at age 12 and began playing junior football for the Aspley Devils at age 14.[3]

McGuire played for the Brisbane Broncos Under 20's side from 2008-2010, playing 29 games and scoring 11 tries. He made his NRL debut for the Broncs in against the New Zealand Warriors in Round 3, 2009. He scored his first NRL try for the Brisbane Broncos in a 30–10 win over the Cronulla Sharks.[4]

In Round 16 of the 2015 NRL season against the Newcastle Knights, McGuire suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.[5]

Representative career

McGuire's mother was born in Auckland, New Zealand and is of Samoan descent, making McGuire eligible for Australia, New Zealand and Samoa.[6]

In 2007, McGuire played for Queensland Under 17's and Under 19's. In 2008, he played for Queensland Under 18's.

In 2010, McGuire debuted for Samoa against New Zealand on October 16.[7]

In 2011, he was selected in the Australian Kangaroos train-on squad but was later omitted due to eligibility issues from playing for Samoa.[8]

In 2012, McGuire was selected as 18th man for Queensland in Game 2 of the 2012 State of Origin series.

In 2014, McGuire was selected as 18th man for Queensland in Game 3 of the 2014 State of Origin series.

At the end of the 2014 club season, McGuire was part of the Samoa team that took part in the 2014 Four Nations.

On 2 May 2015, McGuire played for Samoa against Tonga in the 2015 Polynesian Cup.[9][10]

In May and June 2015, McGuire played for Queensland against New South Wales in the 2015 State of Origin series.[11][12]
