The Kaohsiung City Government (KCG; Chinese: 高雄市政府; pinyin: Gāoxióng Shì Zhèngfǔ) is the top-tier local government administrative body of the Republic of China from December 2010 that governs Kaohsiung City. It consists of a directly elected executive Mayor of Kaohsiung. It replaced the earlier Kaohsiung County Government and Kaohsiung City Government which had covered a much bigger area and governed more citizens.

History
In 1924, Kaohsiung Town became Kaohsiung City, and the Kaohsiung City Office was established in Gushan District by the Japanese government which reported directly to the Kaohsiung State. The city office building is located in the current Daitian Temple building.
The second city office of Kaohsiung was built in 1938 at Zhongzheng 4th Road in Yancheng District and commissioned on 16 September 1939. After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, the city office was renamed Kaohsiung City Government and remained the city administrative center until 1992.
A fast-growing population and rapid industrial and commercial development caused the expansion of the city government as well. In 1992, the city government moved to the new city hall building in Xiwei 3rd Road in Lingya District to provide people with better quality of services. The former building at Yancheng District was turned into the Kaohsiung Museum of History which was opened on 25 October 1998.[1]

The mayor of Kaohsiung City is the chief executive officer of the city. He/she is elected for a four-year term and limited to serving no more than two terms. Under the mayor there are 3 deputy mayors, 1 secretary-general, 2 deputy secretary-generals and 30 principal officers.[3]
