Khridoli (Georgian: ხრიდოლი xridoli) is a martial art from Georgia.[1] It consists of five components, namely khardiorda (wrestling), krivi (boxing), farikaoba (fencing), rkena (throws and grabs borrowed from sambo and judo), and archery.[2] Weapons training includes the bow, the sword, and the staff. Swords may either be two-handed, paired with a shield, or paired with a shortsword. Unarmed khridoli is primarily grapple-based but also makes use of punches and low kicks.
Said to have a heritage dating back centuries, several groups initiated a revival of khridoli since the 1980s. Since the 1980s, several groups initiated a revival. In 1989, a Georgian Martial Arts Department was created at the Rustaveli Society.[citation needed] In 1990, the Federation of Georgian Martial Arts - Khridoli was formed.[citation needed] Today it is the official unarmed combat method used by Georgia's armed forces, and the Khridoli National Academy teaches the system to the Georgian army.
