Kirsanovsky District (Russian: Кирса́новский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[2] district (raion), one of the twenty-three in Tambov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the east of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,280 square kilometers (490 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Kirsanov (which is not administratively a part of the district).[1] Population: 21,756 (2010 Census);[3] 23,613 (2002 Census);[6] 24,780 (1989 Census).[7]
Administrative and municipal status
Within the framework of administrative divisions, Kirsanovsky District is one of the twenty-three in the oblast.[1] The town of Kirsanov serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a town of oblast significance—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[1]
As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Kirsanovsky Municipal District.[2] The town of oblast significance of Kirsanov is incorporated separately from the district as Kirsanov Urban Okrug.[2]
