Lucas Cornelis van Scheppingen (born 22 October 1976), better known under his stage name Laidback Luke, is a Filipino-Dutch DJ and producer. He was voted #46 on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list in 2008, before jumping to #27 in 2009 and jumping up 10 places in 2010.[1][1]

Career

Laidback Luke grew up in the Netherlands and made his name as a graffiti artist before turning to making music. He has worked with artists such as David Guetta, Steve Angello, the percussionist Nebat Drums, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, Example and Junior Sanchez and played throughout Europe and North America as well as shows in Japan and Ibiza.[2] He has released two studio albums: Psyched Up (1998) and Electronic Satisfaction (2002) as well as a successful mix album, Windmill Skill (2003). In 2003, van Scheppingen did a remix of the Daft Punk song "Crescendolls" for the duo's remix album Daft Club. Luke has also released his own mix album, titled Ibiza Closing Party, as a free covermount CD in the October 2008 issue of Mixmag. He released his new album in July 2011, titled Cream Ibiza Super You & Me.

In 2012, Laidback Luke was nominated for the best European DJ award from the 27th Dance Music Awards. Luke is one half of Nouveau Yorican, a musical side project with his wife Gina Turner.

Personal life

After a first marriage,[3] he announced on the maiden voyage of Holy Ship! that he was engaged to American DJ Gina Turner[4] and they married on October 1, 2012 at The View, Piermont, New York.

Laidback Luke practices Kung Fu, especially Choy Li Fut, and participated with Team Kung Fu Holland at the World Championship 2013 in China. The team (4 men) won 23 gold medals and 5 silver medals.
