Legenda Education Group (Abbreviation: LEG Malay: Kumpulan Pendidikan Legenda) is a Malaysian private university college in Malaysia. LEG's main campus is located in Mantin, Negri Sembilan.[1] The college is one of the largest institutes for education in Malaysia.[2] LEG offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, such as a master's degree in IT, engineering and business. LEG and the University of East London have partnered to offer a British qualification at LEG's main campus.[1] The campus has approximately 3,500 students, with about 70% of them being from foreign countries.[1]

History

Legenda Education Group's (LEG) entry into the field of private higher education began with the establishment of Legenda College in Pulau Langkawi in 1998. Due to rapid growth and the need for more space, Legenda College relocated to the new integrated campus in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan in 2002.[3] From there, LEG expanded from a single institution to five (5) colleges, including one University College presently through further acquisitions between 2003 and 2007.

The group offers more than 200 MOHE approved courses of which 60 are fully accredited by MQA in fields like engineering, quantity surveying, architecture, construction management, information technology, computer science, business, accounting, art and design, nursing at diploma, HND, degree and master levels to about 5,300 students. More than 30,000 students have graduated from LEG colleges since their inception.[3]

In line with its mission to become one of the most respected centres of academic excellence in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific region, LEG collaborated with a number of international strategic partners including the University of East London (UEL), Coventry University. The University of East London and the Coventry University have cancelled the collaboration due to the lack of lab equipment in the engineering laboratories.

Group of Colleges

LEG colleges are all licensed Private Higher Education Institutes (PHEI) under the Private Higher Education Act 1996. A brief background of each the respective LEG colleges are as follows;

Linton University College (formerly Linton College) was established in 1985 in Ipoh, Perak. It specialises in providing courses in engineering, construction management, information technology and business. In 2005, Linton College was acquired by LEG and was relocated to the integrated campus in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan.

Linton College has a long-term association with the UEL and Coventry University which provides it a platform to offer internationally recognised franchised programmes. Linton College previously offered engineering degree courses from Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom ("UK"). Through such synergistic collaborations, Linton College has enhanced its international profile and character through joint development of curriculum, research, staff development and knowledge transfer with its international partners. In March 2010, Linton College attained university college status and was renamed Linton University College.

ITP was established in Kuala Lumpur in the year 1986 and was acquired by LEG in 2003. ITP offers programmes in four (4) major areas namely engineering, built environment, computing and business. The specialised fields of study are engineering, quantity surveying, architecture, information technology and business. In 1991, ITP became the first college to offer Edexcel HND programmes in Malaysia thus pioneering learning-outcome based technical and vocational higher education in Malaysia. In addition, ITP also offers franchised programmes from UEL. ITP became an independent entity of the group in 2009.

IMM now has more than 300 nursing students.

The first LEG college to be established was Legenda College which was set up in 1998 with a campus facility located in Kuah, Langkawi. The college commenced operations by offering a range of franchised programmes from Institut Teknologi MARA (currently known as Universiti Teknologi MARA (“UiTM”)) and UTM. In 2001, Legenda College signed an agreement with USM to offer Computing and Information Systems programme and subsequently in 2004, Legenda College received approval to conduct Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) degrees from USM.
