LexSite is a web-based free content linguistic resource for the English-Russian language pair. The resource includes a lexical database with a relevance-based search allowing users to search using strings containing both Russian and English words. The resource is developed and maintained by Language Interface, Inc. based in New York, USA. At this time LexSite is one of the largest and most comprehensive online linguistic resources for those Internet users who need communications across the English and Russian languages.[citation needed] The resource is designed to improve performance and quality of work that involves multilingual communications.

Features

  • Relevance-based search
  • Automatic detection of available n-grams in search queries
  • Search for queries containing mixed English and Russian lexemes
  • Search for Russian and English synonyms
  • Bilingual parallel corpus of English and Russian technical texts

Specification

  • Lexical database with more than 2 million Russian and English terms
  • Database of over 250,000 translated segments consisting of target-source pairs
  • A benchmark shows that the resource returns 90% of the database queries within 385 ms when receiving 10 queries per second for 30 seconds.

Advantages and disadvantages

LexSite is focused on a single language pair, this may not be sufficient for tasks where a content needs to be translated into multiple languages. On the other hand, this narrow focus enables developers and linguists to achieve results in translation and language engineering that would not be possible otherwise.
