This is a list of unused highways in New Zealand.

  • State Highway 1 Auckland Southern Motorway, Nelson Street - a right-hand-side exit off-ramp from Auckland Southern Motorway to Nelson Street was replaced by left-hand-side exit as part of an upgrade of the Central Motorway Junction in the 2000s. The ramp was turned into a cycleway, which opened in December 2015.[1]
  • State Highway 1 Wellington Urban Motorway, Terrace Tunnel north end - the three-lane two-way single-carriageway tunnel was built in the 1970s as the northbound half of a six-lane layout, but the southbound tunnel was not built, due to financial constraints[citation needed]. The pillars that would have carried the southbound carriageway into the unbuilt tunnel are clearly visible beside the motorway from the Clifton Tce carpark. [1]
  • State Highway 1 Wellington Urban Motorway, Terrace Tunnel south end - the disused two-lane one-way carriageway between the southern end of the Terrace Tunnel and Ghuznee Street was the southern end of the motorway until the Wellington Inner City Bypass opened in 2007, when the it was extended to Vivian Street.
  • State Highway 1 Dunedin Southern Motorway, Kensington end - a short on-ramp leading from South Road immediately to the north of Carisbrook was removed when the link between the Caversham by-pass and Crawford Street was upgraded to a dual carriageway in 2010–11. Though blocked at both ends, the on-ramp still remains.
