- The 1983 Japanese manga Riki-Oh takes place in 2001.
Film
- Max Keeble's Big Move is set from September 3 to 7, 2001.
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (movie) (1968)
- World Trade Center (2006) and United 93 (2006) both depict the September 11 attacks.

Computer and video games
- Grand Theft Auto III is set in October 2001.
- Conker's Bad Fur Day is set in March 2001.
- Urban Strike (1994), set in an alternate/fictional 2001 timeline, when it foreshadows a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center's Twin Towers (which, eerily, means it correctly predicted the 9/11 terrorist attacks).
- The first 3 Muv Luv visual novels, "Extra", "Unlimited", and "Alternative", take place in the later half of this year. (2003, 2006)
- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: The DL-6 incident is set on 28 December 2001, as defense attorney Gregory Edgeworth (Miles' father) was murdered under strange circumstances inside an elevator. Yanni Yogi was the suspected murder, but his lawyer alleged temporary insanity and Yogi was declared not guilty.

- In The Flash episode "Fast Forward", Barry Allen / The Flash (John Wesley Shipp) is accidentally sent ten years forward in time to March 3, 2001.
