Malayemys is a genus of turtles in the Geoemydidae family. It was considered monotypic until 2004, but as of 2010 consists of two species. It is found in several countries of Southeast Asia.

Taxonomy

The genus description is attributed to Lindholm, 1931. Damonia was used by Gray in 1869, but is considered a junior homonym.[1][2] It was considered monotypic until 2004.[3] As of 2016, the genus consists of three species: Malayemys macrocephala, Malayemys subtrijuga and Malayemys khoratensis there is dispute that the name Malayemys isan may be available but does not meet the requirements of the ICZN Code.[1][2][4][5]

Distribution

Malayemys has a native distribution in Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, and was introduced into Java, Indonesia.[1]
