Matthew K. He has served as CEO since January 2006 and as Chairman of the Board since July 2006.[3]

After McCauley ascension to CEO in January 2006, Gymboree posted its first profitable second quarter in 10 years, and McCauley was quickly rewarded with the Chairman's spot and a major upswing in stock value. In his first six months, McCauley increased gross margin from 40.1% to 46.2%, net margin from 1.9% to 6.9%, and ROE from 8.1% to 21.7%.[6]

On September 24, 2012, Matthew K. McCauley provided notice of his resignation from his position as Chief Executive Officer of The Gymboree Corporation effective September 25, 2012. McCauley continued to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Company.[7]

McCauley's first job was framing houses. He enjoys fixing things, and has cited that as a favorite part of his job. McCauley has listed his father, mother, and Stuart Moldaw as his mentors in life and business. He said his hardest decision has been to close down Gymboree's Janeville division, which required substantial layoffs.[5]
