Mohamed Abdelfatah (Arabic: محمد عبد الفتاح‎‎, born February 4, 1978 in Suez, Egypt), commonly known by his nickname "Bogy" (Arabic: بوجى‎‎), is an Egyptian Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler.

Career

Abdelfatah(Bogy) represented his country at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics. He won his division at the 2006 FILA Wrestling World Championships in Guangzhou, China (84 kg class), beating 2004 Olympic gold medalist Alexei Mishin from Russia in the quarter-finals, and Nazmi Avluca from Turkey in the final.

In the Men's Greco-Roman 85 kg class at the 2000 Summer Olympics, Abdelfatah finished in 8th place. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in the Men's Greco-Roman 84 kg class, he contested the result of his fight in the knock out round and was later disqualified. After taking a break for several years because of a knee injury, Abdelfatah started to compete again. In 2010 Mohamed Abdelfatah moved up to 96 kg winning the Mediterranean Games and the African championship. In 2011 he won the silver medal in the Golden Grand Prix in Baku. He also placed third in the Golden Grand Prix in Tbilisi 2011.

2011 World Championship

Mohamed AbdelFattah ambitions Ranked fifth in 96 kg category, the Egyptian Mohamed AbdelFattah is the only African who succeeded to get its qualification ticket for the 2012 Olympic games. He will be aiming for the podium. This is what he clearly stated in Al –Ahram-hebdo: “after an interruption of more than two years unrealistic (suspended) and several injuries it was very difficult to come back into the game, I did not want only to qualify for the Olympic Games, my aim is to take a medal and hopefully gold. My actual level allows me to attain that objective”. As a reminder, Mohamed Abdel-Fattah was the 2006 world champion and several other international and golden Grand Prix medals.

  • Believing he had been treated unfairly by the officials, Abdelfatah did not accept this result; subsequently Egypt was fined $500 as a result of the protest and were disqualified from the competition.[citation needed]
