Motilal Nehru College (MLNC) is one of the largest constituent colleges of the University of Delhi.

It is situated on Benito Juarez Marg.

It offers courses in science, humanities, arts and commerce disciplines. The economics and history departments have recently[when?] been renovated and have new faculty. In 2011-2012, Motilal Nehru College set a record with 0% result[clarification needed] in B.A. Prog., B.Com. Hons. and B.SC. Physical Sci. Hons.

The campus is completely wi-fi connected.

Every year the college intake above 1,000 students in various courses.

Motilal Nehru College completed its golden jubilee in 2014 and a newly constructed air conditioned block for commerce faculty was named Jubilee Block and was inaugurated by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union minister of sports in NDA government.

Motilal Nehru's college library is the biggest library in Delhi university and at present count has 1,07,586 volumes. The library subscribes to about 86 periodicals and magazines of scientific and general interest. It has an online catalogue of its holdings for all users. 21 computer stations with internet facility are also available for library members.

The canteen provides a variety of dishes at subsidized rates for students. It is located in a beautiful corner of the campus with both indoor and outdoor seating.

There is also a medical room. A medical doctor is available on all working days and this facility is free to students.

A stationery shop and xerox facility are also operated on campus.

Various societies in the college produce a campus life with year-round activities carried out by the students.

History

The college is named after freedom fighter Pandit Motilal Nehru. Established in 1964 with only 200 students, it now has about 100 faculty members and 2,000 students. The college moved to its new location with a sprawling campus, extensive lawns, a large administrative block, library, and well equipped laboratories and air-conditioned computer science laboratory in 1989.

Its acting principal is Dr B.K. Jain. Dr. Ramesh Sharma, who was the principal until 2010, is a well-known Hindi poet who writes under the pen name Divik Ramesh.

Current college president is Devesh Singh.He is a student of English Hons. and he was topper of 2nd semester and 4th semester. His way of campaigning helps him in winning the election with a good margin. He is serving excellent by working on agendas promised by him.He is a good leader which the college have proud on.

Library

The college's library is regarded as one of the best among all the colleges of University of Delhi.[2]

Timeline

In 2006 the Department of History organized a national seminar/workshop on "Exploring Delhi", which was a huge success, getting recognition from the Prime Minister and the President of India.[citation needed] In 2007 the department produced four first divisioners in the History honours course. The history department has turned out to be one of the known faces of the university. In 2007, it was named Antiquity by the department and since then many national seminars and films screenings have been organised.

Other well-known facilities in the college are in economics and political science faculty departments, which attract students from all over the country. Recently, the college introduced a new facility for movie screenings, called Bioscope. A new state-of-art computer lab and seminar room have been constructed.

In the 2007-08 session, the college participated in exchange program with Pusan University of Foreign Studies, Korea which was appreciated by the Delhi government.

As of 2013-14 the college is considered one of the best in Delhi University for economics and commerce subjects.[by whom?]

Cultural activities

The cultural society of the college is a society within Delhi University with their teams winnings various competitions on the national level. The western dance group team of the college has won many competitions in the past few years, including ones held with institutes like IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, BITS Pilani, and Delhi University Nexus. Moti Lal Nehru College was one of the nine colleges which participated in the Sahitya Akadami's poetry competition. The college has been lifting the Chancellor's Trophy for ten years.

Aadhaar, the dramatics society, has created new milestones by taking part in the India's biggest streetplay event, Sahitya Kala Parishad and was the winner of a poster display event, with the aim of performing the best in the history of dramatics society, and won various prizes. Other cultural societies Electra dance society and Malhar music society are also doing well in their respective events.

Placement Cell

The college has a very active Placement Cell along with the Career Development Center which looks into the placement for its students from all streams. The objective of the Placement Cell is to help students identify their career goals and provide an edge into the competitive job market. It organizes resume workshops, provides internships to students in various organizations during summer breaks, and prepares students for jobs. Reputed companies such as Fluor India Limited, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Cians Analytics, AON Hewitt, Capital IQ, Grail Research, and Protiviti have visited the college for recruitment.
