Olympic field-hockey games were held at the Municipal Stadium and two adjoining fields at the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City. Built in 1964 by the Mexico City government, the open stadium has roofed grandstands on each side of the playing field. The installation covers 5.7 acres (23,000 m2) and the grandstands seat 6,160 spectators; additional temporary stands, with approximately 1,200 seats, were installed in the end zones. Rest areas for athletes, dressing rooms, showers and a cafeteria were located in a building adjacent to the stadium. The playing field was conditioned in accordance with the regulations of the International Hockey Federation.
