Musharraf Hussain is a scientist, educator and religious scholar in Nottinghamshire, UK.

Biography

Born in 1958, he came to Britain from Pakistan in 1966 with his parents to the town of Halifax, where he memorised the Quran,[citation needed] learnt Tajweed and basic Quranic Arabic. After completing a degree in Biochemistry at Aston University, he went on to gain a Science doctorate. He worked as a Scientist till 1990 and then decided to dedicate himself to serving the Muslim community. He studied Islamic studies at a seminary in Pakistan under the guidance of Justice Pir Muhammad Karam Shah and then at Al-Azhar University, Cairo.[1][non-primary source needed]

Hussain is the Chief Executive of the Karimia institute Nottingham[2][3] and the Chief Editor of The Invitation, a family magazine.

Recognition

He is the Vice Chair of the Christian/Muslim Forum, a senior trustee of Muslim Hands, a trustee of national centre for Citizenship and Law. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by Staffordshire University in 2005, for his services to British Muslim community.[citation needed]

In 2009, he was awarded the OBE for his services to community relations.

Karimia Institute

The Karimia Institute was founded in 1990 with the support of the local community in Nottingham (UK) and the chief executive officer Dr Musharraf Hussain al-Azhari OBE.[4] He was founder and formerly the Director of the PGCE course and vice chair of the association of Muslim schools. Since 1997, he has been working at the Karimia Institute on projects ranging from community development, raising educational achievements of Pakistani children, adult classes and interfaith work.[5]

Author

He is the author of various books on Islam including 7 Steps to Moral Intelligence, published by Kube Publishing in 2010.[6]
