Newcestown (Irish: Baile Níos)[1] is a small village located 35 km from the city of Cork in the western part of County Cork, Ireland. It is a village with a church, a pub, shop, and gaa club. The local church is Church of St. John the Baptist.[2] The local school is Bishop Galvin Central School.

Sport

Newcestown GAA is the local Gaelic Athletic Association club. It was founded in 1959 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2009. They are a vibrant club with over 150 members each year and a strong underage. They won the Premier Intermediate in 1971, in 2001 against the Nemo Rangers, and in 2010 against Clyda rovers 10 points to 11. They won the Junior a hurling championship in 1972, 1980 and 1990. They have won other major championships and major youth cups starting at u12 to u21. Tim Crowley, Kevin Kehily and Pat Kennealy have been the major players to burst on to the Cork squad from 1970 to 2000. Other players have burst on to the Cork scene since 2000. Red and yellow are their home colours and black are their away colours.
