Nirma University is an autonomous university located in Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat, India. It functions under the aegis of the Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF).[2] Nirma University is a statutory university established under a state act.

Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF)
Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel is the founder Chairman of the Nirma Group and the President of Nirma University. Dr. Patel established the Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF) in 1994 with a view to promote and support higher education in India.
Nirma University
Nirma University was established by NERF[2] in 2003 as a statutory university under a special act passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly. Subsequently the University established three more institutes, the Institute of Pharmacy in 2003, the Institute of Science in 2004 and the Institute of Law in 2007.
Nirma University is the oldest private university in the state of Gujarat. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act. The University is duly accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The University is a member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
The University consists of a Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Doctoral Studies and Research. The University campus occupies 115 acres in urban Ahmedabad.
Constituent Institutes
There are six constituent institutes operating under the faculties that operate undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programmes.
ITNU Institute of Technology
ITNU Institute of Technology presently offers graduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes in various branches of engineering in addition to an MCA programme. The Institute is renowned for imparting quality education, active research and also in nurturing students for holistic development.[citation needed]
The Institute of Technology in 2014 has been listed in the category of 'Premier Engineering Colleges' amongst Best Engineering Colleges across the country as per the survey of The Education Post; listed in the category of Top Engineering Colleges of Super Excellence by Competition Success Review-GHRDC Engineering College Survey and ranked 12th in the DataQuest CMR T-School Survey 2014 across the country.[citation needed]
IMNU Institute of Management
IMNU Institute of Management offers a five-year integrated BBA-MBA, a two-year residential MBA programme, an MBA in family business and entrepreneurship, and a doctoral programme in management, as well as an executive diploma programme, in-house training programmes, management development programmes and consulting services.[3]
The Institute of Management in 2014 has been ranked as the 24th Best B-School by a survey conducted by National HRD Network (NHRDN) and published in People Matters, rated in A1 Category B- Schools of the country in a survey conducted by Indian Management and ranked as the 10th Best Private B-School by a survey conducted by GHRDC and published in Competition Success Review.[citation needed]
IPNU Institute of Pharmacy
IPNU Institute of Pharmacy offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in addition to doctoral programme in various branches of Pharmaceutical Sciences.[4]
ISNU Institute of Science
The ISNU Institute of Science offers a Master of Science programme in selected areas of biological sciences and provides broad training encompassing science, business, and ethics to students enabling them to explore wide career opportunities.[5] A balanced mix of academics and professionals with rich academic and research experience contributes to the Institute’s academic excellence.[citation needed]
ILNU Institute of Law
ILNU Institute of Law offers B.A. / B.Com. - LL.B. (Hons.) five year integrated programmes, a one-year LL.M. programme in different areas and a doctoral programme in law.[6]
In a short span, the Institute of Law has made its presence felt all over India by winning various laurels at national and international level. The Institute has received the Institutional Excellence Award 2012 from Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF).[citation needed] The jury unanimously selected the Institute for the Award from among the hundreds of law schools of its kinds among the SAARC countries.[citation needed] The Institute has been conferred with the National Legal Awards 2015 for ‘Excellence in Industry Interface in Legal Education’ on May 20, 2015 at New Delhi by CMAI supported by Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.[citation needed]
In addition, the Institute has been ranked as first in ‘Curriculum Designing’ and second among the Law Colleges of Private Universities in the country by Flair Talk in July 2014. It has also been ranked Fourth among Best Young Law Schools by Career 360 Magazine published in January 2015.[citation needed]
IANU Institute of Architecture
IANU Institute of Architecture offers a five-year graduate programme in Architecture. The institute has commenced its pioneer session from 2014.[7]
Campus
The Nirma University campus has a serene academic ambiance and a student community running clubs, planning and executing national and international activities, competitions, annual technical and cultural festivals, live projects, group projects in addition to social amelioration through various activities for underprivileged schools and villages in the vicinity of the University. The students of the constituent institutes of the University have consistently won accolades and awards at national and international levels.[citation needed]
Awards
Nirma University has been awarded with the 'Best University in Use of Technology in Teaching-Learning Practices’ award in the Third CMAI CCI Technology Education Excellence Awards 2015. The Award was given during the Afro-Asian Conclave organized by Global Business Studies of Gujarat Technological University and CMAI Association of India on July 17, 2015.[citation needed]
Rankings
The University has been consistently ranked among the top 10 private universities in India. Among many other rankings, the University in the year 2014, has been ranked as the 6th best university among the top 25 universities in India by Higher Education Review and 3rd among the top private universities by The Week.[citation needed]
Notable alumni
- Pranav Mistry, B.E. Computer Engineering, 2003 batch, an Indian computer scientist and Global Vice President of Research at Samsung, USA. He has been appointed a Brand Ambassador for the ‘Digital India’ programme by the Government of India.
