Notre Dame of Genio Edcor, Inc. (Old name: Notre Dame of Edcor) is a private, Catholic academic institution run by the Oblates of Notre Dame[1] located in Alamada, Cotabato, Philippines.This school is a member of the Notre Dame Educational Association.Established in 1958,It has been one of the pioneering school under the Notre Dame Educational System run by the Oblates of Notre Dame in the province of North Cotabato, Philippines.For more than fifty years of being a "Mission School" and considering the fact that it is located in a destitute community during its establishment, through the years, Notre Dame of Genio Edcor, Inc. stand as a firm academic institution in bringing quality education and upholding of Catholic values as a Community of Faith, Community of Friends Community of Disciples and a Mary-like Community.The school Patroness is the Blessed Virgin Mary, the school's feast day is September 8.

Historical Background

In 1957, the settlers of EDCOR requested the late Archbishop Gerard Mongeau, OMI, DD, (b. February 4, 1900-d. October 31, 1994) to establish a school for their children. The Bishop's response was to let the people establish the building then he will provide the administrators. In answer to the request, the construction of wooden materials was offered by the farm administrator retired Major Dalmacio Tecson. Labor was free. The Army Chaplain, Fr. Manuel Vacante supervised the construction. It was a Seven (7) room building with one room for the Laboratory, one room for the Library and one room for offices and faculty. The building was completed on time for the school year 1958-1959 offering courses for first and second year high school.

The administration of the school was offered to the Oblates of Notre Dame (OND sister), a community of women organized on 1956 in Cotabato City. The ONDs accepted the offer because the school was a good venue for Catechism. The fourth year students will be trained to be catechists to the public elementary pupils. Notre Dame of Genio Edcor is a small school located in a town where there is no other public secondary school existing during that time and poverty is keenly felt by the people. In such a given context the school ministry strives to bring hope and joy to the students and the community it serves.

It will be interesting to know what the situation was, when EDCOR was first visited on May 14, 1958 by Fr. George Dion, OMI with Sister Estrella Adre, Juliana del Castillo and Lina Carbonell.Sr. Estrella entered in the codex the following:

It was an exciting thrilling ride over bumpy road in a dilapidated delivery car. Fr. Dion's wagon couldn't go through the first river. The ride was tiresome but the missionaries in the making got a big thrill out of it. There was that feeling of being participants in God's ways of penetrating the most difficult missions.

On May 26, 1958, Fr. George Dion accompanied the first ONDs who were assigned to start the new Notre Dame School in Alamada: Miss Ma. Estrella Adre, Soledad Amigable, Mercedes Favor, Prexedes Biclar. School equipment, supplies and other miscellaneous things were brought to the new school from Cotabato City. n June 10, 1958, it was noted that the enrollment was increasing and hence they saw the need for more teachers.

NDGE is located in EDCOR which is an acronym for Economic Development Corporation. This was the "land for the landless" program by the late President Ramon Magsaysay. It was intended for HUKS- a popular group of dissidents in the country so that they could acquire land to cultivate. Resolution No. 376 dated March 10, 1953 gave birth to this project and the manager of the Project EDCOR was retired Major Dalmacio Tecson.

When the management of the place was turned over to the civil government, the name of the place was changed to ALAMADA, in memory and honor of the great and powerful late Datu Alamada who fought against foreign opposition and tyrannies. Kitacubong was the heart of his kingdom. In 1968 Resolution No. 38 which is the renaming of the municipality to Alamada, separate and distinct form the municipality of Libungan, Cotabato. Meanwhile, the school has retained its name Notre Dame of Genio Edcor.

As the years went by more students enrolled at NDGEI and hence an annex building with four rooms was added. The flooring was cemented. The last room was raised by one meter to serve as stage for PTA meetings and for school programs.

NDGEI envisions her graduate to be pastorally oriented, agent of change, missionary in nature expressed through their preference for the poor and to be committed in the building of the Church of the Poor through the Basic Ecclesial Communities.

The said character of an NDGEI graduate could be traced a tradition of a communal spirit of collaboration and solidarity that prevailed in the school. NDGEI continues to provide the student with the necessary varied opportunities toward a holistic development of their person.

The faculty and staff are similarly given occasions for professional development for an improved instruction and relevant presence in the lives of the students. With the support of the parents, teachers, alumni, government and private sectors, this OND-owned school has survived the many crises it faced for the last five decades.

Now on its 55th year of existence in Alamada (from 1958-2014), Notre Dame of Genio Edcor, Inc. hopes to renew its commitment to offer quality education to the people of this municipality and the nearby areas. NDGEI has displayed its solidarity with the people by endeavoring to provide the facilities and services that the students and pupils need in spite of the meager resources. The school has received consistent and generous support form various competent institutions and individuals form near and far who believe in the importance of educating the young. It is with deep gratitude to God and to all that Notre Dame of Genio Edcor, Inc. marks its Golden Anniversary in 2008. School's Anti-Bullying Policy

As a Catholic mission school. The Notre Dame of Genio Edcor, Inc. upholds its vision -mission and committed to each students' success in learning within a caring, responsive and safe environment that is free of discrimination, violence and bullying. Our school works to ensure that all students have the opportunity and support to develop to their fullest potential and share a personal and meaningful bond with people in the school community.

The aim of the school's anti-bullying policy is to prevent bullying of any sort. The Administration, teaching and non-teaching personnel and staff, students and parents should have an understanding of what bullying is and what are the corresponding policies that the school implements in order to deal and prevent it from occurring.

Pursuant to REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10627 (Anti-Bullying Act of 2013) the Department of Education releases the DepEd Order No. 55 s. 2013[6][7] on implementing rules and regulations of the act that all schools must then set a policy on Anti-Bullying.

In response to this, Notre Dame of Genio Edcor,Inc. imposed a School-based anti bullying policies and measures to be implemented which begun during the school year 2013-2014 onward.

Bullying, by its very nature, undermines and dilutes the quality of education. The school believes that the cornerstone in the prevention of bullying is a positive culture and climate that is welcoming of differences and diversity and is based on inclusitivity and respect.Therefore, the policy shall only becomes truly effective when supported by a positive school climate which encourages respect, trust, care, consideration and support for others.

Curriculum

Notre Dame of Genio Edcor,Inc. adopts the Department of Education's Kto12 Curriculum [8] for its Grade 7, Grade 8 and Grade 9 Junior high school program for the school year 2014-2015.The remaining 4th year high school will still adopt the Revised Basic Education Curriculum. For this school year, the Kto12 Grade 7, Grade 8 and Grade 9 will be using the Averaging Grading system while the 4th year students will remain in the Cumulative system.Commencing school year 2015-2016, the school uses the Average base Grading system in all year level.The school uses a Computerized Grading System created by a private company called DISAT.(Digital Information System and Technology).[9]
