Obour City (Arabic: مدينة العبور‎‎  pronounced [mæˈdent el ʕʊˈbuːɾ, mæˈdiːnɪt-], meaning "City of the Crossing") is a city in Qalyubia Governorate, about 35 kilometers north-east of Cairo. The city has approximately 250,000 residents.[1] It has also a number of hotels including Movenpick.[2] It is named as such to honor the crossing of Bar Lev line by the army of Egypt in the Yom Kippur War in 1973.

It is one of the new 16 urban areas in Greater Cairo (among New Cairo, 6th of October City and others).

It is also considered an industrial area and has a great number of factories.

Climate

Köppen-Geiger climate classification system classifies its climate as hot desert (BWh),[3] which is very similar to its neighboring area in Cairo and the rest of Egypt.
