Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. Paul Yu (Chinese: 余英華) was the President of State University of New York at Brockport (SUNY Brockport) between 1997-2004. During his presidency, SUNY Brockport rose to Tier 2 within the SUNY system. He also established the Presidential Scholarship program which attracted several top international students to the SUNY Brockport campus. Paul Yu also was the President of San Jose State University for the Summer of 2004. He resigned the presidency of San José State just three weeks after taking office. Yu, who left for health reasons, returned with his family to New York and took a position with his former employer, the State University of New York.[1]


Yu's areas of scholarly interest are philosophy of language and philosophy of mind. He has published a number of papers and made many professional presentations. He also has been active professionally in other ways, including serving as external evaluator for the Chinese University of Hong Kong, National Taiwan University, and National Science Council of the Republic of China. In 1980-81, he was invited to be a Fulbright lecturer at the National Taiwan University.

Yu has also been active in other professional and civic capacities, regionally, nationally, and internationally. He served on the Michigan Council for the Humanities from 1988 to 1989. He has been a member of Board of Directors of the American Association of University Administrators (AAUA) since 1998. And in 1990, under the Visiting Scholars Exchange Program (VSEP), sponsored by the United States National Academy of Sciences, he was visiting scholar to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in Beijing, China.

He is the younger brother of Yu Ying-shih.
