Pinoy pride
Pinoy Pride or Filipino Pride is a favorable set of beliefs concerning of being Filipino and an expression of Filipino nationalism. People who holds belief in Pinoy Pride asserts that the Philippines, its people and culture are positively different than others.

Definition and manifestations

One of the more common manifestations of Pinoy pride is when Filipinos attribute the success Filipino nationals or individuals of Filipino descent abroad such as boxer Manny Pacquiao, singer Charice and American Idol season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez as a national achievement.[2]
The way Filipinos cope up in the midst of natural disasters and problems, with some managed to still smile amidst such trials, has been attributed to resiliency of the Filipino people as a whole.[3]
Reception
The UP Third World Studies Center, has linked Pinoy Pride's manifestation of Filipino resiliency to German sociologist Ulrich Beck's concept of narrated attention, "where the parlance of resiliency ultimately detracts from, rather than allow for, a critical stance towards the zeitgeist of our time".[3]
Dr. Norman G. Owen who is based at University of Hong Kong, criticized the proliferation of hoaxes and exaggeration of historical facts in an effort to build on Pinoy Pride such as Agapito Flores being the inventor of the fluorescent lamp. Owen said that such exaggerations makes an impression that by resorting to such acts, Filipinos as a people has not much to be proud of which he believes is not the original intention of such people who does such acts.[4]
