Pondicherry Engineering College (or PEC) is an engineering institution situated in South India on East Coast Road in Pondicherry, Puducherry on the exact border of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

The college is an institution sponsored by the Union Territory of Puducherry. The college was started in 1984 under the VII Five Year Plan. It is an autonomous institution for the purposes of administration, staff recruitment and College development and is managed by a Board of Governors. The college is autonomous for Undergraduate acedamic purposes also. And affiliated to the Pondicherry University for Postgraduate and Phd academic purposes. The institute offers eight Undergraduate, eight Postgraduate and PhD programme in the disciplines of engineering and technology .It is the only college which offers off shore structure course in civil engineering.This college is the best college in Pondicherry owing to its placement results.It was ranked the 9th best college in south India.

Location

The college campus is situated at Pillaichavady, which is about 12 km from the railway station and bus-stand in Pondicherry. It is about 150 km south of Chennai (Madras) on the shores of Bay of Bengal.

Campus

The 240 acres (0.97 km2) of the college campus has departmental buildings, an auditorium, library, hostels, students' amenities centre, open-air theatre, residential quarters for staff and laid out with roads, lawns and gardens.A central library with over 48000 books, 72 national journals, 98 international journals and INDEST (Indian National Digital Library of Science and Technology) facility is available for the use of staff and students.

Besides this there is a well furnished guest house and a well equipped dispensary are available. a well planned fibre-optical campus network with 12 Mbit/s leased line internet connectivity is available in the campus.

The institute has 2 basketball courts, one football ground and one cricket ground.

Training and placement cell

The college provides the students with ample opportunities for their all round personality development . The training and placement cell of the college facilitates campus recruitment process. Counselling and Career Guidance Centre (CCGC) is functioning in the college to provide career guidance and personal counselling to the students

An Industry Institute of Interaction cell (IIIC) is in continuous interaction /discussion with industries.

Electronics and Communication Engineering Department

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Pondicherry Engineering College was established in the year 1985. All through its sparkling history of 25 years, the department of ECE has been known for its exceptionally strong Under-Graduate and Graduate training programmes. Ranked among the prominent in India, the department has always been on a progressive path, thanks to the experienced and dedicated faculty members who have a strong commitment towards providing quality engineering education. The Department has 20 faculty members, 4 Professors, 8 Associate Professors, 8 Assistant Professors and of them 15 are Doctoral degree holders. The department has been accredited by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation) for 5 years (Vide No.: NBA/ACCR-99/2002, March 29, 2007).

Spread over a built up area of 2564 sq.m, the Department houses 6 classrooms, 9 laboratories, a Department library and 2 seminar hall.

Each state-of-the-art laboratory is managed by a faculty Coordinator and a Staff-in-charge and has the best-of-breed equipments featuring Spectrum Analzyers, Vector Network Analyzers, Antenna and Microwave Training Systems and Optic Kits from HP, Advantest, Electronica Venetta, Agilent and Lab Volt. The faculty and the supporting staff take up the responsibility of providing the best laboratory programs to complement the theoretical courses. Maintenance of the lab equipments is given prime importance and is carried out at the end of each Academic year.

The Department library houses over 300 standard books, more than 250 periodicals, journals and papers and is open to all the students through the day or all working days.

The well-furnished Seminar Hall is fully air-conditioned and provides an excellent venue for official gatherings. It can handle a maximum of 100 people with built-in features like a Wall-Mounted Projector, Over-head Projector, Podium and Public Addressing Systems.

Students' Council

The department has its own students' council organising various conferences, Workshops and seminars on the cutting-edge technologies to provide the students with a unique opportunity to keep in touch with the latest trends in the domain. The Council also encourages students to conduct various Online and Offline events so as to help them gather a good rapport with the staff and fellow students.

Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering Department

The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering was started in 1998 with a student strength of 30. now the strength is 74. The main motto of this department is to make engineers think. Cultivation of new ideas thoughts is what done by students. The department has been accredited by AICTE, New Delhi. The department has obtained two AICTE grants in the last five years for Establishment and Modernization of Laboratories.

The faculty members of this department are highly qualified and have huge industrial experience. In the academic research, most of faculty members of the department are involved in research work in emerging areas which is the major strength of the department. The department primly focuses on areas like microprocessors, micro-controllers, Telecommunication, Robotics, Biomedical, digital signal processing, transducers and measurement, Computer Control in Process applications, virtual instrumentation etc.Practical knowledge being the most vital part of education the department trains the students in the well-equipped laboratories like Electronics lab, transducers and measurements lab, process –control, automation lab, micro-controllers and micro-processors lab. All the labs are well equipped with state- of- the- art equipment and latest software packages like MATLAB, PLC, P-SPICE and LabVIEW,PROTEUS for the accessibility of students.

The department conducts career development programs with objective of improving the communication skills, personality development, and tips for facing the interview, technical writing etc. by inviting external expert lectures. The department monitors the student's progress regularly and providing necessary counseling at various levels towards achieving better result by conducting training and counselling program. The department also understands the importance of practical exposure to students and periodically arranged industrial visits and implant training in industries under various domains. The department has also conducted one International conference on Nano and Micro-electronics during Jan 2008 and one National conference on Control, Instrumentation, measurement and automation during Feb. 2008

Revelation

Revelation is a Quadrennial Technical festival of the department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Pondicherry Engineering College. Its being taken charge by the student council of EIE, fusion. It puts the various creative and technical ideas of students all over the nation to test, provides the biggest stage for competitions and reward the best with glory and fortune! Its truly a unique fest that beckons the spirited.

Intronix

Intronix is an annual inter collegiate technical festival organised by students of electronics and instrumentation engineering department of PEC. This fest was launched with the aim of cultivating interest among on robotics and technology. a wide range of competitions, workshops and events are organised every year to upgrade the students with new technologies

Marakriti

Marakriti(robot in Sanskrit), the robotics club of Pondicherry engineering college, was started on the year 2009 and has been an active club till date.Housed in EIE department it is one of the premier robotics club of pondicherry The students of EIE have been taking the initiative to implant the seed of motivation inside every enlightened minds for the past three years with immense support from the department staff.

Marakrithi is to boost the interested, inspire the uninterested to excel in the field of robotics and to gain knowledge, confidence and experience. The field of robotics isn’t a single domain where one gains a specialized knowledge or intelligence about specific thing, instead it is a domain where everyone gets specialized in every aspects like mechanical, electronics, software.

This club is one of the few clubs which, not only from class room sessions, but also provide hands on sessions and course end competitions to encourage the young talent to learn new technology and ruminatively design modern RO

PEC Alumni Association (PECAA)

The Alumni Association is formed to provide a forum for the students who have passed out of the college to keep in touch with each other and with the Alma Mater. The membership is open to all students passing out from the college. It is obligatory for every student to become the life member of the association by payment of Rs.100 at the time of admission to the college. The faculty of the college is its honorary members. An Executive Committee elected by the General Body at its annual meeting manages the office of the Alumni Association.
