Poolsbrook (grid reference SK442736) is a former mining village near Staveley (where the population is included) in North East Derbyshire, England. The village was built by Staveley Coal and Iron Company towards the end of the 19th century to provide housing for workers employed at the nearby Speedwell and the later Ireland Collieries. Since then new houses have been built (dubbed the "new village" by locals) and the old house have been knocked down.

Broadcasting

The local radio stations that cover the village are Peak FM, Radio Derby, Radio Sheffield and Mansfield 103.2 FM.

Early on for television many residents have the aerial facing Emley Moor to receive Yorkshire Television but other regional channels can be received easily in the village such as for the Central Television with a correctly aligned aerial.

Now in modern times, many of Poolsbrooks residents use television providers such as Sky, Freeview, Virgin media etc. Subsequently they can now receive all the channels that these providers make available.

Local power

A large number of residents signed up to have their heating and electricity supplied by landfill gas powered CHP.[1] However, due to a lack of council support the scheme did not go ahead.[2] Poolsbrook is part of Staveley Town council, which is part of Chesterfield borough council. They have local elections to elect councillors on both of these councils. Many residents vote for the Labour Party and labour has been in power over Poolsbrook for many years.
