Girls Aloud are an English-Irish girl group that were created through the ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The group consists of Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh.

Following the success of their debut single "Sound of the Underground", which spent four weeks at number one, the group has been successful in achieving a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles (including three more number ones) and two number one albums in the United Kingdom. All of their albums have been certified platinum, with their greatest hits album The Sound of Girls Aloud selling over one million copies. They have been nominated for five BRIT Awards, winning Best Single in 2009 for "The Promise". The group has sold ten million records worldwide.

Girls Aloud's collaborations with Brian Higgins and his songwriting and production team Xenomania have earned the group critical acclaim, due to an innovative approach to mainstream pop music. The group has become one of the few UK reality television acts to achieve continued success, amassing a fortune of £30 million by May 2010. Guinness World Records lists them as "Most Successful Reality TV Group" in the 2007 edition. They also hold the record for "Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group" in the 2008 edition.

The Tangled Up Tour is Girls Aloud's third arena-based concert tour and their fourth tour overall. It was in support of the group's fourth studio album Tangled Up. The tour began on 3 May 2008 in Belfast, with the final show on 4 June in Birmingham. They also performed ten open air concerts over the summer. The twenty-four arena dates and ten summer shows made the tour their longest yet. The show reportedly cost an estimated £3 million to stage, with £250,000 worth of pyrotechnics. Billiam, Luigi Masi, and The Saturdays supported the vocal group during all the dates. The tour was sponsored by KitKat. Girls Aloud received tabloid attention for the provocative outfits, designed by Julien MacDonald, which were frequently compared to those of Madonna.

Released on 26 November 2007, the single was the second to be taken from Girls Aloud's fourth studio album Tangled Up and charted within the top three. Allmusic described the song as "an elegant electro-pop ballad delivered with a restraint and maturity to rival groups of twice their age". "Call the Shots" was critically acclaimed, with pop music journalist Peter Robinson calling it the "greatest pop song of the 21st century." The song won his website Popjustice's £20 Music Prize. Out of Control is the fifth studio album (sixth overall) by the British all-female pop group Girls Aloud. It was released by Fascination Records on 19 November 2007 (see 2007 in music) in the United Kingdom. Like their previous albums, Tangled Up is produced by the production team of Brian Higgins and Xenomania. The album took around six months to record, with sessions taking place in Kent and Los Angeles.

The album was praised by a number of critics. It was described as "their most melancholy album to date", a "break-up album [...] atop a mix of ’80s electro-pop", and "chock-full of those trademark, otherworldy electro-synth songs". The Times declared, Xenomania and Girls Aloud "continue to be as inventive as ever" and BBC Music called the album "pop music at its finest". Out of Control was also a commercial success. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, becoming their most successful studio album to date. The album's lead single, "The Promise", became Girls Aloud's fourth number one and was followed by "The Loving Kind" (co-written by Pet Shop Boys) and "Untouchable". The album was followed by the Out of Control Tour.
