Prague Society for International Cooperation
The Prague Society for International Cooperation is an organization dedicated to business, politics and academia in Central Europe. A rigorous agenda is achieved through transparent networking, off-the-record dialogues and numerous international functions in order to develop a new generation of responsible, intellectuals who work towards a common goal in a post-communistic society. The most notable function of the Prague Society would be the Hanno R. Ellenbogen Citizenship Award, jointly given every year with the Global Panel Foundation to those with the vision to work towards the common good. The Society believes that the innovative process has been hindered based on a reluctance to share information and communicate. The organization was established in June 1999 in order to overcome this obstacle and has retained many international ties around the world. In addition, Prague Society also publishes a newsletter that is distributed to the local population in the Czech Republic and other international publications.[1]
Past events
- January 25, 2011: Prague Society presents the Hanno R. Ellenbogen Citizenship Award to the Polish journalist and former dissident Adam Michnik.[2]
- June 23, 2010: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty was a round table event with Yuri Schmidt as the honorary guest speaker.[3] Yuri Schmidt was the founder of the Committee of Russian Lawyers in Defense of Human Rights.[4]
- January 28, 2010: Round table event located at the Romanian Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic. Special guest of honor Juraj Chmiel,[5] who will replace Štefan Füle as the Czech European affairs minister.[6]
- February 14, 2009: Round table and public policy dinner with U.S. General Wesley Clark, former supreme allied commander of Europe. General Clark pushed for NATO membership of Central European nations like Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic after the fall of the Iron Curtain. During the round table discussion topics such as "energy security, Middle East missile defense and other international issues," were discussed.[7]
- December 2004: Prague Society presents the Hanno R. Ellenbogen Citizenship Award to former NATO Secretary Baron Robertson of Port Ellen, who donated the financial reward of 150000kc to David Hodan.[8]
